Sumacs are dioecious shrubs and small trees in the family Anacardiaceae that can reach a height of 1–10 m (3.3–32.8 ft). Its scientific name is Rhus coriaria.
This wine-coloured ground spice is one of the most useful but least known and most underappreciated.
Sumac is a spice that has a pungent tart, lemony flavor. It is a coarsely ground, dark red powder and blends well with chili, allspice, and thyme.
